Insurance etc.

Some insurance policies will cover acupuncture; many will not. You must check with your insurance provider to see if your policy covers it. Anthem writes some group policies that do, but also writes many that do not. If you have an individual policy, acupuncture will not be covered.

I do not process insurance paperwork for reimbursement. You need to pay me at the time of service, then apply for reimbursement yourself. I will provide receipts with diagnosis and treatment codes for you to do this ($5 administrative fee). To improve the likelihood of your insurer reimbursing you, ask your MD or DO for a written referral with a diagnosis code.

Neither Medicare nor MaineCare cover acupuncture.

If you have a pre-tax flexible spending account at work to pay for medical expenses or a Medical Savings Account, acupuncture is an allowed expense. Likewise, if you itemize medical expenses on your federal tax return, acupuncture is an allowed expense. A basic receipt is acceptable for all IRS-governed reimbursements/deductions, and there is no fee for this.

Paperwork for Worker's Compensation claims and motor vehicle accidents are treated in the same way as insurance paperwork.

If I am forced to deal with your attorney, insurance company or other bureaucratic entity, I will bill you for my time at $60 per hour.
